AMG Mercedes Benz – Germanys Super Car
As a company, AMG was formed in Germany in 1967 by two engineers that had previously worked for Mercedes, in order to produce racing engines. AMG started off by designing and testing racing engines. They expanded their business into building bespoke road cars, based upon standard Mercedes cars but it wasn’t until 1993 that the first true AMG Mercedes Benz was unveiled with the C36.
You will notice that when you compare prices of the AMG Mercedes Benz against the production models, the upgrades do add significantly to the price ticket.
All AMG Mercedes Benz engines are built by hand, using a “one man, one engine” philosophy at the current AMG plant in Affalterbach, Germany. You can actually find out which engineer built any particular engine as on completion, each block is individually stamped with the guys signature. Throughout the Mercedes range, the AMG Mercedes Benz version is sold alongside the original at a premium because of all the upgrades.
Through the early 2000s, AMG Mercedes Benz focused on two engines, both V8, both 5.5.liter, one standard four stroke and the other a supercharged engine. AMG phased out both the naturally aspirated and supercharged 5.4 L engines in favor of the new, M156 V8, with optional turbo charging, beginning in 2006.
Current models of the AMG Mercedes Benz include the SLK55 and G55, the G signifying the turbo charged version. In the next size category, you can choose from either the SL63, the E63 or if you really want to stand out in the AMG crowd, you could go for the sleek Black Series CLK63.As if this wasn’t enough, there is always AMG’s offering of a true super car!
Available now in Europe, but disappointingly not until Spring 2010 in the U.S., the AMG Mercedes Benz SLS, a gull winged super sports car is unleashed. With a top speed of 197 mph, and that’s electronically limited! The SLS boasts a 6.3ltr V8 that develops 571 hp at 6800 rpm .
The first of, we are certain, many accolades for the AMG Mercedes Benz SLS is to be voted the 2009 best sports super car in the world in a poll of readers from 25 Euro motoring magazines, though how a quarter of a million people can afford the $265,000 price ticket at the present is something to ponder.
Marion’s husband recently cashed some stock options to fulfil a long held dream of owning an AMG Mercedes Benz. Marion says that when he’s finished polishing it on a Sunday, they even sometimes go for a Drive!

A* For A Used Mercedes-Benz A Class
There’s only one word to describe a Mercedes-Benz A Class hatchback; adorable. From its elegant nose to delightful posterior, the almost unexpected offering from the well-respected German camp brings with it a zephyr of much needed fresh air to the hatchback category.
Mercedes-Benz are not a manufacturer that one would have ever expected to branch out into the world of the compact family car. Providing stately, dignified cars that have been at the forefront of the public concept of luxury and exclusivity, Mercedes have proved that there is more to their brand than astronomical prices and outlandishly big bumpers.
With the downturn of the economy, the second-hand car market has seen a boom in popularity that has brought many previously unattainable cars within reach of even the leanest budgets. A used Mercedes-Benz hatchback still offers quality and elegance for substantially less than the original price.
I’m not looking for a new car at present, but I’ve yet to pass up an invitation to test-drive a model for research purposes. Whilst I’m a fan of hulking great 4×4s (my Discovery and I have conquered most of the surrounding off-road terrain), there’s something about the allure of a Merc that is felt by even the most biased brand aficionado.
Being based in a very rural area I am blessed with country lanes that merge into urban roads, ideal territory to put any car through its paces. Unfortunately it was raining metaphors, and I was slightly dubious about whether the comparatively dinky used Mercedes-Benz A Class could compare to the handling offered by the beast that is the Discovery.
From the offset it was quite a charming experience. Regally pulling away from the forecourt the A Class behaved impeccably as I headed into town to see whether it could inspire the same feeling of confident performance as a car twice its height. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did. There’s a surprising amount of interior space, so much so that you almost feel as if you’ve stumbled into the Tardis rather than a compact family car. Gripping the road despite the deluge, I was soon out of urbania and heading through some particularly fierce twisting country roads.
Not a problem. Every corner was a doddle, and whilst there was no other traffic to contend with I felt that the little Mercedes-Benz A Class could easily squeeze past on even the narrowest lane. Whilst I didn’t leave the office intending to buy a new car, I was almost tempted to enquire about payment schemes. Certainly the price was very attractive, and the performance that I had experienced proved that even though it was more diminutive in size, it had the heart and stomach of a full-grown Mercedes-Benz.
If you’re looking for a car that has an impressive pedigree and surprisingly precocious performance, a used Mercedes-Benz could well prove to be ideal. An approved used Mercedes-Benz dealership will offer peace of mind with aftersales advice and quality stock, and also the ability to test-drive the vehicle of your choice.
